About Us
The Hayden Astros is a non-profit youth baseball organization established in 2017 to provide a competitive baseball experience to the youth of North Idaho. We are committed to maintaining a positive atmosphere that fosters confident performance through a focus on effort, team membership, fundamentals, and academic understanding of the game.
The Hayden Astros will remain committed to developing and maintaining partnerships with other youth sports organizations, municipalities, and related associations in order to improve the baseball experience for every member of our community.
Our goal is to improve access to quality baseball experiences, facilities, and equipment throughout North Idaho.
Coaching Philosophy
The power of play: Players will not get better if they do not get the opportunity to play.
We expect our players to demonstrate respect for themselves, their teammates, and their opponents.
You get back what you put in!

Chance Sampsel
Chance and his wife Malea moved to Hayden after ten plus years in northeastern Tennessee. Coach Sampsel holds degrees in History and Philosophy with a Religious Studies emphasis from East Tennessee State University. Chance has well over a decade of playing experience post high school playing baseball and fastpitch softball. While experiencing a variety of ups and downs as a player after high school, coach Sampsel feels fortunate to have earned two state championships and a lot of unforgettable memories before stepping away to go back to school and concentrate on his future, his family, and their then two, now three sons.
With over 15 years experience as a coach and team manager, Chance is truly doing what he loves. Coach Sampsel has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of ages and ability levels managing and coaching teams since he was nineteen. Chance has coached locally since 2013 and was a manager with Hayden Little League for the last four years. He was an all-star manager or coach all four of those years, experiencing a state title as a manager in 2015 with the 10-11 year old all-star team.
"Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play."
Mike Singletary
